May 2026 Market Snapshot
May in Review

Markets in May built upon April’s blockbuster gains. As investors continued to price in geopolitical de-escalation, equity markets marched forward with the S&P 500 returning over 5% for the month. This was in tandem with other index gains as both the small cap benchmarks and international markets posted similar
gains. The tech sector continued to lead the market surge on the back of the artificial intelligence (AI) build-out. Oil prices fell below $100 per barrel as US-Iran peace talks appeared promising in the back half of the month. Fixed income yields moved slightly lower on easing inflation concerns resulting in U.S. bonds resulting a modest 0.3% for the month.

Looking Forward: What’s Ahead for Q3 & Beyond
The prospect of a resolution to the US-Iran conflict provides a hopeful geopolitical outlook for markets, however
markets may have already priced in the restoration of normal transit through the Strait of Hormuz. Bond markets
could benefit more meaningfully from easing inflation pressures. The April CPI report of 3.8% confirmed inflation
concerns, due largely to increased energy costs as a result of the war. Any re-escalation of hostilities or a dragging
pace of peace talks could test investor nerve. Strong corporate fundamentals, though, continued to rule the day
as May earnings reports indicated 30% YoY earning growth. While the tech sector has led the way, average
earnings growth excluding tech companies is still a robust 20% YoY. This has helped to reduce valuation risk even
while inflation and geopolitical risk persist. The new Federal Reserve chair, Kevin Warsh, will have his work cut out
for him as he seeks to balance short-term inflation concerns with long-term growth amidst political jockeying.
Investors will be listening closely for his preferences as Warsh is set to lead his first Fed policy meeting this month

On a Personal Note

We are excited to share that Payton and Regan Shipp welcomed their daughter, Lily Anna Shipp, on May 20th. Lily weighed 7 lbs. 8 oz. and measured 21 inches long. She joins proud big brother Lincoln and big sister Claire. Mom and baby are both doing well, and the entire family is enjoying this special time together. We wish them many blessings as the Shipp family continues to grow!
